Why should your audience be interested in this topic? (Note: I am not your audience! Who is?) Body paragraphs (minimum of 2) that present documented information Requires 3 pieces of textual evidence per body paragraph Uses a mix of direct quotes, paraphrasing and summarization All textual evidence includes signal phrases Textual evidence strengthens explanation rather than driving it Conclusion that summarizes your presentation and leaves your audience with a final parting thought (Link back to hook?) Appropriate and varied transitions between ideas and paragraphs Works Cited with a minimum of 6 sources from 3 different databases. 6 Annotations – 1 for each of your 6 sources No direct quotes No 1st person Write in present tense Proofread for spelling, punctuation, grammar, etc. MLA 8 format Complete bibliography information (citation) – Provide all the information about each source using MLA 8th Edition documentation style so that readers or other researchers will be able to find the source easily. (I.e., this is the MLA formatted citation as it would appear on a Works Cited page.) A concise description of the work – A good annotation describes each item as carefully and objectively as possible, giving accurate information and showing that you understanding the source. These qualities will help to build authority – for you as a writer and for your annotations. (1-2 sentences / include authors name and identifying information as well as the title of the source) Relevant commentary – Evaluative bibliographies should explain the relevance of the source to your purpose and audience – specifically, how will this source benefit your essay. The best way to achieve relevance is to consider what questions a potential reader might have about the sources. Your evaluation might also focus on the texts suitability as a source for your writing in relation to your chosen topic.
