Impact of Wetland area as a result of dredging in the Savannah River
10 page single spaced paper with 20 sources. Summary is : Here in Savannah, it is a constant debate of the impact that the constant need to dredge the Savannah River has on the wetland and surrounding areas. Savannah, GA has one of the largest ports in the country. This river flows into forest areas, is used as a drinking water source, etc. The need to deepen and widen it to allow room for even larger ships is concerning from an environmental standpoint. Losing wetlands, increasing chance of obtaining invasive species, destroying current species habitats are only a few of major concerns. While this project is still going on, there are future projects that depend on this dredging project completing that will also harm the surrounding wetlands.
